March 17, 2019 - For God So Loved (Part 2)
As we journey in this season of Lent, we will take six weeks to focus our hearts toward the coming celebration of Easter.
This week our focus is on justice. We are called to stand on truth amidst a world that opposes the truth.
Pastor Jon reminds us that it is not always easy to stand up for truth, but as followers of Jesus it’s what we are called to do.
He gives us four principles:
1) Stand on the truth of the Kingdom even though this world doesn’t understand it.
2) Truth is not spoken out of superiority but out of humble compassion.
3) Jesus continued to speak the truth even while facing death, surpassing the pain of death on the cross to see the freedom of the resurrection.
4) The hope of the Kingdom wasn’t in dying but in the resurrection.
In a world that is wary to impose any “truth” on anyone else, we are called to stand up for God’s truth, no matter the consequences, but we are called to do this in love. The cost of sin is too great!
Jon leaves us with one final, powerful question: Do our hearts break for sin anymore?
Scripture: Luke 13:22-35, 2 Samuel 11:27-12:10
